PRESS RELEASE

March 31, 2012

LEE KEMP ACCEPTS NOMINATION FOR COLORADO SENATE

Greeley, Colorado – Democrat Lee Kemp on Saturday accepted his party’s nomination for Colorado Senate District 23. Kemp, said, “As a Colorado resident for over 35 years, I am honored to have your support. I believe that hard work and dedication are the building blocks of success, and my commitment to my family the foundation for life. I understand the value of giving back to our Country and local community. I have honorably served my country during the Vietnam War, am Chair of the RTD Board, volunteer for CASA, and work as a Victim’s Advocate for the Broomfield Police Department.”

Among Kemp’s goals for the Senate District 23 are: working diligently to bring economic development to our state, fixing our crumbling roads and creating a long-term, efficient transportation system, and giving our children the best education possible.

“I’m tired of the political gridlock in Washington and in our own state capitol. I am not a career politician, but I know we can work together to solve today’s problems with the bedrock principles that we all share and that I have based my life upon,” said Kemp.

In 1972, at the age of 18, Kemp enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the Military Police as a dog trainer to conduct special operations during the fall of Saigon. After two tours of duty and four inactive years in the Army, Kemp was honorably discharged in 1976. He then relocated to Colorado and began working as a bus mechanic for RTD. Over the next 15 years, he advanced from mechanic to management. He left RTD in 1991 to work for Stewart and Stevenson, a mass transit and heavy equipment manufacturer. Today, Lee is the Western Region Sales Manager for Daimler Buses of North America. He has been nationally recognized within the company, including receiving Daimler’s 2010 salesperson of the year award.

Kemp was first elected to the RTD Board of Directors in 2004. In 2008, Kemp was unanimously elected as Chairman of the RTD Board and has been unanimously elected as Chair every year since, making him the only Board member to hold the position for 5 consecutive years.

Kemp lives in Broomfield with his wife Julie. Together they have three children.
